As the saying goes, and in many forms, small simple acts made towards achieving a goal eventually create the impact we seek. Towards the end of 2018, the Hatters had one simple goal in mind: to make eco-conscious decisions in every possible way with our work and actions and Make A Difference (M.A.D). With that in mind, we embarked on a journey learning as we go along to do our part in caring for Mother Earth.

Here are some of the ways we’ve gone about it:

Food For Thought

We started out with our lunch habits - in a Haus full of foodies, you can bet we collected an unnecessary amount of plastic with every food run. In an effort to make a difference, we decided to cut out single use plastic wherever we could, it was a challenge to consciously remind ourselves to carry a container with us whenever we had to run out to get lunch. Fast forward to today - you wouldn’t catch a Hatter dead walking out to buy lunch without a bag full of Tupperwares ready for our favourite hawker stall aunties and uncles to fill. We even went as far as creating our own eco-friendly merchandise to carry with us as we’re on the go (tote bags, coffee travel flask and metal straws).

Compost Happens!

Yes - we did it, we’re still doing it and we’re always going to be doing it. You know you’ve levelled up in the green game when you’ve started composting. Needless to say, this one took a lot longer getting used to. But a few squirms here and some maggot sightings there, we’ve come a long way (we’re talking two bins of compost!) from learning how to. Every Hatter’s walk to the bin with the day’s compost is a surprise waiting to unfold! But all in all, it’s a great feeling of accomplishment to see a bin full of fertiliser ready to use, that also serves as a reminder of what a difference we make as opposed to tossing everything in a big pile of garbage

Money Grows On Trees, So… Recycle Plenty!

An easy way to contribute to conserving our planet is an old but simple practice - recycling papers! At the Mad Hat Haus, we only use recycled paper to use and test print whenever we need. When it comes to events that require printed materials, we make realistic decisions on the quantity we really need on-hand and try to reduce it as much as we can. It’s an easy but overlooked practice and if it’s something anyone and everyone can begin to consider, easily!

Eco-Conscious Decisions

As a creative communications agency, part of our work magically happens because we work with like-minded partners to achieve our blueprint plans. Taking it a step further, we constantly seek partners who are value driven and / or are social enterprises that contribute in making our work all that more purposeful and meaningful.

These are just some of the many ways in which we have started to make a difference in making this Earth a greener place and simply because it is our duty to do so as human beings. As we go along the way, we pick up on more initiatives and meet other like-minded individuals who strive to do more everyday and this truly brings us a sense of enlightenment and inspires us to keep at it.
